Golf

Introduction
Golf is a low-impact sport that requires precision, technique, and a steady rhythm. While it is generally considered safe, golfers are still at risk for specific injuries due to repetitive swings, poor posture, and overuse.

Common Injuries

  1. Golfer’s Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis): Pain and inflammation on the inner side of the elbow caused by repetitive swinging and gripping motions.
  2. Lower Back Pain: Strains or muscle injuries in the lower back from the rotational movements and bending during swings.
  3. Wrist Injuries: Tendonitis or sprains from the repetitive gripping of the club and sudden impact during swings.
  4. Shoulder Injuries: Rotator cuff strains or tendinitis from the repetitive motion of swinging, especially during high-impact drives.
  5. Knee Injuries: Strains or sprains due to improper posture or overuse, especially in the follow-through phase of the swing.
  6. Hip Pain: Caused by the rotational movements during a swing, leading to stress on the hip joints.

Causes

  1. Repetitive swinging, poor swing technique, inadequate warm-up, improper posture, overuse, and lack of flexibility.

Prevention

  1. Proper warm-up and cool-down, improving swing technique, regular stretching and strength exercises for the core, legs, and arms, and using appropriate equipment.

Treatment

  1. Rest & Ice: Resting the affected area and applying ice for pain and swelling reduction.
  2. Physiotherapy: Stretching and strengthening exercises to improve flexibility, correct posture, and restore function.
  3. Medication: NSAIDs to reduce inflammation and pain.
  4. Compression & Elevation: For managing swelling in case of sprains or strains.
  5. Surgery: In rare cases, surgery may be required for serious tendon or ligament damage.
  6. Rehabilitation: Focused exercises to regain strength and mobility, allowing for a gradual return to play.
